Hi my name is Murray, I am 30 years old and married with 3 children, and have a great love of the outdoors where and when I can take part in sports. I am very new to blogging, this being the first one I have ever written. I work in the oil and gas industry and have done for 12 years. Over the last few years this industry has seen the worst ever downturn in my 12 years and it has been very hard on a lot of people. This has and still does affect many people all over the world with pay offs and massive pay cuts, some as large as 60%.
I am very lucky to still be involved working offshore and find I have free time after my shifts have ended, as I work away from home on a 30 day on/off rotation. During the last year or so I have been looking to diversify and gain some extra income. This has led me on an internet journey. My plan is to blog about my attempt at starting a small drone business based in the UK and the internet journey it took me on to find a way to supplement my business. Hopefully it will be informative to somebody thinking about doing the same, and I guess everyone has to start somewhere.
I have always had an interest in technology and flying drones, UAV or SUSA (As I have learnt they go by various names). Some people will know the oil industry heavily relies on the use of ROV or remotely operated vehicles due to water depths of oil wells becoming deeper and deeper. I have worked on some of these as deep as 3000m under the surface of the water. So if a remote vehicle can be so useful under the water I truly believe drones or UAVs can be in the air. After doing some research to find out more about the drone industry its quite clear people are already creating and inventing new ways in which drones can be used the list is growing rapidly along with the market for consumer drones. This helped prove to me I was on the right track.
Now the two ideas seemed very different but as I discovered these could combine together quite well, The first option the drone business is primarily an offline business which provides a service, yes it has a website Facebook page and all the other social media things you can think of but this drone service relies on going to locations and flying the drone to capture whatever the client required. The second part is an online business as I still predominantly work in the offshore industry and I mentioned again I have free time and work away a lot so when I’m travelling and can’t be out flying my drone I can write or blog about what has helped me and what I find troublesome in the hope you might be able to assist me also. Having access to a computer and writing about things I find is a great way to pass the time. I can also blog about the things I found to supplement my business as everyone knows equipment costs money, small things soon add up and a supplementary income would be great. Creating and online income is also something I have never attempted before but hopefully a few pointers in the right direction should help as I found there is help out there and knowing where to find it is a great help in itself.
This is all something very new and daunting to me, blogging and starting a new business but the world and internet has many potential clients as of july 2017 about 3.8 Billion potential clients and so many things to offer in the way of help and assistance it was time to get started and see what I can make of it all.
As I have progressed and developed my blog I realised that it would be split into two categories. So if you would like to see How I Got Started with my drone business you can “howigotstarted”or you can visit my “shop” for drone and photography accessories.
